Adorare Mente, Volume 1
The first issue of Adorare Mente is ready! The editors have selected five quality papers that we think demonstrate the goal the journal - fine scholarship matched with serious faith. Hyun-Gwang Kim gives a faithful exposition of Philippians 2:5-11, arguing that believers should follow the example of Christ who refused to exploit his divine status for his own self-aggrandizement. Given the constant temptation to pride even within the walls of the church, Kim’s paper serves as a good reminder to us all of what true humility looks like. John Meade’s insightful paper argues that the background of circumcision lies in ancient Egypt, and that the rite was intended to communicate that all of the Israelites were priests to God. Meade’s excellent work in the Ancient Near East background to circumcision leads him to a conclusion that has significant biblical and theological implications.
Blake White provides a biblical theological analysis of the theme of Christ as the last Adam. Viewing the work of Christ through the lens of his identity as the second Adam brings greater depth to our understanding of what he accomplished in his death and resurrection. Trevin Wax examines one of the most important meetings in the history of the church, the Marburg Colloquy, and points out that the issue of Christology was front and center. Even if we disagree with some of the outcomes of Marburg, we can all admire the passion for correct theology that motivated those involved. Finally, Nathanael Copeland draws lessons from the life and thought of Francis Schaeffer, one of the twentieth-century’s most notable apologists. In light of recent attempts to discredit Schaeffer’s legacy, Copeland’s paper reminds us of how much there is to learn from him. We hope that you enjoy and benefit from these quality papers. Soli Deo gloria.
